Footnotes
Footnotes
Creating a footnote is incredibly simple – you just need to include your footnote in double parentheses, and the footnote will then appear at the bottom of your post/page. This is how one looks1
Sometimes it’s useful to be able to refer to a previous footnote a second (or third, or fourth…) time. To do this, you can insert the exact same text as you did the first time and the identifier should simply reference the previous note. An easy way to do this is to copy paste the original footnote including the double parentheses.
This is Lorem ipsum2 filler text to fill up this FAQ so you can see how if you click the footnote number it jumps down the page to it. You then can use ↩ to return to where you were. Lorem ipsum has two occurrences so you can see how that looks as well.

Website System Backups
Website System Backups
- The website is backed up automatically every Wednesday in rotation, keeping 2 copies of backups.
- We make additional ad-hoc backups when needed.
This means that if anything happens to the website, we can restore it after an "event".
BUT you have to let us know immediately if anything is not working right i.e. you get a Server Error etc.
When we have to do a restore, everything done after the most current backup is lost.

- Bounce Rate: A website’s bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who leave after viewing only one page. It indicates how often users “bounce” away from a site without further engagement, such as clicking another link, filling out a form, or navigating to a second page. A high bounce rate can signal problems with user experience, content alignment with user intent, or technical issues, though it may be a positive sign for certain pages like blog posts that successfully answer a question.
- Calculation: Bounce rate is calculated by dividing the number of single-page sessions by the total number of sessions and expressing the result as a percentage.
- What is considered a “bounce”: A bounce occurs when a user lands on a page and then leaves by closing the tab, clicking an external link, or simply not interacting with any other elements on the site.
- What influences it: Factors like slow loading times, poor design, irrelevant content, or technical errors can increase bounce rates.
- Not always a negative sign: A high bounce rate can be acceptable or even desirable for specific pages. For instance, if a visitor finds the answer to their question in a blog post and then leaves, the page has successfully fulfilled its purpose.
- Key takeaway: Bounce rate is a crucial metric for understanding user engagement and website effectiveness, but it should be analyzed in the context of the specific page and website’s goals.
Date Representation & BCE/CE vs BC/AD
Styling Manual - Timeline and general Date:
- We have adopted the convention of BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) - primarily used to avoid religious connotations, but they are functionally equivalent to BC and AD.
- Circa is a Latin term meaning "around," "about," or "approximately". It is primarily used in historical contexts, literature, and archaeology to indicate that a date or time is approximate rather than exact. It is to be always combined with BCE or CE to be clear on the era being mentioned.
- We express dates System Wide as YYYY/MM/DD for accurate listing of dates by Ascending Order.
- Each Timeline Story is set to "Custom Order Based" so that the Order code is:
- A BCE date is 10400010101
- leading 1 is required for sort order to work
- next 4 digits are the Year
- next 2 digits are the Month
- next 2 digits are the Day (if known)
- last 2 digits allow for multiple events with the same date. i.e. 01-99
- A BCE date is 10400010101
